Seriously uninhabitable!

I have lived here four months and I it is completely infested with baby and adult and cockroaches of every species and kind. I have never seen a live cockroach in my life but I have became very versed on them in my short time here. The ceiling in my bathroom leaks urine from the upstairs toilet on my toilet, floor and it has leaked on me so I am hoping no one upstairs has a communicable disease. I have called them, told them in person, called again and they really just don't care at all. My... stove was on in my kitchen when I came home one day and would not shut off so I've had to unplug my stove. My refrigerator is not working properly so of course ice cream won't freeze. I guess in 110 degree weather on the fourth floor with no heat or ventilation I didn't need the ice cream or ice in my freezer! I have cellulitis on my ankle from bug bites and my ankle is swollen and I clean full-time for a living 50+ hours a week so that's awesome. I have an online store which I can't make anything now because I don't want to have to possibilty of giving cockroach infestations to my customers. I am totally exhausted from working, coming home and having to completely bleach and clean my belongings and just trying to protect my belongings and my health, forget about being comfortable at home. It's been the longest, exhausting fight of my life to live like this. I can't believe that people live this way. I get no response of course on the phone and when after working a 10 hour day, walking to the office which btw, they switch names from Indy flats, midtown flats and Northside flats to act as though they are different when they get so many complaints and to act like they lost money people gave them but luckily I keep all my receipts. I hope this helps anyone make an educated decision. It is really a struggle and exhausting and I feel really gross everytime Im in my apartment. Thank you and good luck on your apartment search!

Stay Away: This Barrett & Stokely Subsidiary is Terrible

Some leasing office staff are nice, some not so much, but overall they aren’t good about reporting issues to maintenance that need fixing.

Maintenance is a horror. Water emergencies causing damage are not a priority and expect to have giant hole in the drywall for over 2 months while they look for a contractor to fix it. There are a lot of unfinished projects like unpainted moldings, half way done light fixtures, mismatched paint in the hallways.

Cleanliness in the buildings doesn’t exist....
Someone comes to sweep and vacuum the halls about once every 6 months. Cigarettes, trash, everywhere inside and out. Whatever ends up getting cleaned is by neighbors. Any maintenance done in public areas isn’t cleaned up, just chunks of plaster and wood everywhere.

There are definitely fire and safety violations like unlit EXIT signs, cracked off steps on the stairs that you can barely fit a foot on, unlit completely blacked out hallways and stairways...that won’t get fixed for at least a week if ever.

I personally haven’t had issues with pests, but clearly it’s a problem in some units because they had people come treat every unit weekly and the hallways daily for a few months.

Why do I put up with this nonsense? I really love the neighborhood, my utilities are bundled into my rent, I like my apartment (not the landlord lol), and I’ve taken to doing some repairs myself. I also have finally learned how much to nag the leasing office to get things fixed.

Stay far away

If I could give zero stars I would. I lived in the Rotherwood for over a year and it was disaster after disaster.
They gave me the run around for 4 weeks about my move in date before finally telling me when I can move in. So I pack my things and load up the uhaul truck and head to the Indy Flats to pick up my keys and move in. They tell me, "oh I thought someone called you, the tenant decided not to move out after all so we don't have an apartment for you." This left me homeless, with all of my...
items in a UHaul truck. They tell me they can give me a studio instead of the one bedroom I was supposed to move in to, but it'll be dirty and won't be available for two days. At this point I'm just desperate to have some where to live so I take it and give them $600 upfront so that I can have the keys. So I move into a studio instead of the two bedroom that I was supposed to have.
And then it goes downhill from there. I live on the first floor but my windows don't lock so it's easy for anyone to just climb into windows and this neighbourhood has a really bad junkie and homeless problem because of the methadone clinic that isn't even one block away.
The lock to the front door is also terrible so the lobby was always filled with junkies and homeless people looking for a place to hang out.
If you want to feel safe, this is not the place to live.
Also everything is peeling and the bathrooms are molding and everything is dirty. If you can imagine something being badly maintained and disgusting then you can imagine one of their apartments.
But hey the rent is decent, until you have your car towed even when you have a parking sticker and have to pay $200 to get it back. Or having to kill roaches constantly. Or constantly being afraid of being mugged or having someone steel the rims off your car like one of my neighbours.
The building is so bad that someone from the city housing unit came by and left their card at the door asking tenants to call them about what's going on in the building.
Also, there was no outlet in the bedroom portion so imagine the heat of summer and not being able to have a window unit.
And all of the maintenance requests I ever put in were marked complete but none of them were ever complete. Hmmm.
But when the maintenance guys ever did come to my apartment they spent the whole time flirting with me and making me feel uncomfortable. Great.

Don't live here

Probably one of the worst living experiences I've ever had. I ignored all of the bad reviews online, don't be like me ! People rate this apartment complex horribly for a reason. I can deal with the building looking old and torn, I knew that going in. But the disturbing amount of roaches and bed bugs, it's been a nightmare. I never want to be home because I'm always killing roaches. I'm constantly afraid of being bitten when I'm asleep. I'm trying to move out as soon as I can. Unless they manage... to seriously renovate these buildings, don't move in here.

Cheap rent

That's the best I can say about my apartment. The office isn't always friendly or helpful. The grounds are kept up that great.
