15% Rent Increase, 1-Person Maintenance Team
I moved here 8 months ago, and I'm not staying a second year. They increased the rent about 12%. While increasing the rent, they only had one person on the maintenance staff. I had maintenance tickets take months and tickets that were just closed without being resolved. One example is because the property doesn't change smoke alarm batteries before they start chirping. That means that there's a lot of garages on the property that have chirping smoke alarms. You can walk around and hear... them. I live above a couple garages that aren't mine, and they didn't care about the chirping smoke alarms. I gave it a few weeks, then I opened a ticket to have them fix it. After a few more weeks, they closed the ticket and didn't replace the battery. I opened another ticket and they finally replaced the battery after over a month of it chirping.
On top of that, I fell asleep one night and about 2 hours later another chirping smoke alarm, but this time in my own apartment. You can't silence it without having a spare 9-volt battery, so I couldn't get back to sleep. That same day they said that I was in violation of my lease by leaving my grill outside my door. I have my own space there, but they call it a common area (it's not).
The drains in the apartment are very slow despite me opening tickets on it. The side of the sink with the garbage disposal keeps getting clogged even after they fixed it. The quality of the apartment overall isn't bad, but they care about superficial maintenance, like touching up door trim, more than actual maintenance.
They even admitted that they're behaving like this because they had no units that weren't rented. They're seeing what their renters would put up with before moving out. After about 6 months, I had enough of the company that owns this place. It isn't the people that work here's fault. The company that owns this place is terrible. I don't like moving, but the way that they treat their renters is awful.
