FUNDAMENTALLY FLAWED

I have been living here for six months and am currently in the process of terminating my lease early.  This property has several fundamental flaws, including its leasing team, dysfunctional fire alarm system, and inconvenient building layout.  You WILL regret your decision to live here.  Here are the most prominent issues of the property:

1. Leasing Office/Management
The most glaring issue is the complete lack of accessibility to the leasing team.  Reaching property management or the leasing...
team by phone is nearly impossible.  Despite multiple attempts–calling daily, multiple times a day, and even back-to-back–I have never successfully connected with a team member.  The rare callback comes days later.  This is a nightmare for urgent leasing issues.  Currently, I need to contact the leasing team to terminate my lease early and may be forced to pursue legal action due to their unresponsiveness.

2. Fire Alarms
The fire alarm system at Wilshire La Brea is excessively triggered.  It activates more frequently than any housing complex I've lived in or heard of.  During March and April 2024, there was a period of about 20 days when the fire alarm went off approximately 10 times, often for an hour or more and at night.  On two occasions, the alarm blared for eight hours straight.  This persistent disruption is intolerable, especially if you have pets or work from home.  It was this 20 day period that prompted my decision to find new housing.

3. Building Layout
While not as critical as the other issues, the building layout deserves mention.  The main elevator which services the central area near Lassen's, is heavily used by maintenance and cleaning staff to access their pseudo-office on the third floor.  This makes an already busy elevator even slower.  I have waited nearly 10 minutes for the elevator in this seven-story building, causing me to be late for appointments and forcing me to leave for work 10 minutes early to account for the delay.

Additionally, there are other issues, such as the property management's rude and dismissive responses to negative reviews.  They often refuse to take responsibility for the numerous problems raised by residents.  this lack of accountability only adds to the frustration of living here.  In summary, living at this property has been a regrettable experience, and I strongly advise others to look elsewhere.

Property Manager at Wilshire La Brea responded to this review

Hello Kate, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disturbance caused by the loudness and frequency of the alarms. Ensuring the safety and security of our residents is our utmost priority... . Please know that these activations are due to the fire alarm system appropriately responding to the items that cause the activation. In this instance, a fire sprinkler broke in our retail parking garage due to a vehicle collision. We would love to connect with you to talk about the matter and give you some clarity on our proactive approach. We, unfortunately, are not able to locate you with the name provided. Please contact us at (323) 342-5515 or wilshirelabrea@essex.com. We look forward to connecting with you! Warm Regards, Jenna BP., General Community Manager

I would give zero stars if I could!

Could not get my keys on move-in day. Unable to reach management for weeks! Every time I try to go to the leasing office they have it locked and just peek through the windows. Trying to move out now and cannot return keys to management because they wont respond to me. Entire building hallways smell like rotten trash and dog pee. Look elsewhere and at a different management company!

Pretty but useless...

I've lived here for almost a year now and I'm extremely disappointed with almost everything about this building.

1. You would think that the location is great but theres always a construction going on in Wilshire Blvd, so there's ALWAYS traffic.

2. You're family and friends will never find parking unless they pay $20 in the guest parking (and the building won't validate there ticket)

3. They give you a card to open the garage door that sometimes works for one entrance, and other times on the...
other entrance. Most of the times I have to get out of the car and play around with the card for 15 minutes so the sensor could find the card.

4. The main car entrance was broken for over 2 months. (And a construction had the street closed for over 6 months)

5. Every time something stops working in my apartment (sink, toilet, shower, A/C) which happened almost once a month, it takes the office around 4-5 days to process your request and they don't exactly have the best communication with the service staff. Most of the time I would need to find a service staff member and ask them because they never hear anything from the office.

6. Most delivery guys drop off your packages in front of your door, that eventually get stolen.

7. Most of their parking spots are reserved for corporate companies that are never in the building and they end up giving you a spot very far away from the elevators. Also the way they designed the whole parking lot is awful, a lot of unnecessary fences dividing spaces that force you to talk around them to get to your elevator.

8. Some elevators don't even go to your floor.

9. Once a month, one of the elevators stops working for like a week of two.

10. And to top it all off, they keep increasing there prices.

It's a pretty building and all, but the service is extremely bad. I can't wait for my lease to finish so I can move out.

A Great Introduction to the Los Angeles Area

Located on Miracle Mile - an area of Los Angeles sandwiched between Korea Town and Beverly Hills - the Wilshire La Brea complex is right next to an upcoming Metro station, a bus station, and has parking for it's residents while also being a quick jump down to I-10. It's a great place for those just moving to the Los Angeles area. However, the major fault is in the pricing of the units, which begin in the low 2000s. NOT for those on a budget. However, the perks tend to outweigh the negatives, as... the units are all gorgeously built modern apartments with amazing views of the surrounding areas (or the Wilshire La Brea's beautiful courtyards), a very friendly and helpful staff, stainless steel appliances, and enough variety in unit sizes to fit a single renter or a small family.
