I am SO glad I finally moved out!!! All the reviews are true.
-Smell- This building smells. Inside it smells like garbage or something else that is just rancid. The lingering odors are enough to make you sick or want to throw up. Do you like holding your breath just to get to your apartment. I had a friend visit once and upon entering the building she said "WHAT IS THAT SMELL!"!?!? I was pretty embarrassed.
-Doors- there are tons and tons of unnecessary big heavy doors to go through to get... anywhere. Hauling anything around, your laundry or groceries is a big nuisance.
-Noise- do you like being jolted awake by your upstairs neighbor walking around in the middle of the night? What about hearing hours of your neighbors the loud TV/music? These apartments have paper-thin walls. Expect your neighbor to be able to hear everything you say in your kitchen and bathroom from just outside in the hallway.
-Washing machines- Working late or working night shift and need to start a load of laundry after 10pm? Nope. Not in this building. Laundry room hours are from 7am-10pm, forget any last minute or emergency washes. Apartment stated there will be repercussions for for using the laundry room after hours. Also, the washing machines are constantly broken and at one point your clothes will be the load that does not get the spin cycle or machine will take your quarters. The dryers barely work and I find myself having to spend 3x the normal amount to get my clothes dry.
-Construction traffic- there are a bunch of new developments going up right down and across the street....gravel trucks, traffic jams...you name it...as soon as you pull out of the parking lot and head out there will be more traffic for the foreseeable future until the new buildings are done which seems like years from now.
-7-11 across the street. Convenient but it seems like every week there are police cars responding to something at 7-11. I have seen fists fights in the parking lot, suspicious activity behind the building, and someone trashing inside the 7-11 store, and two people get in a fist fight right in front of me while I was waiting in line....all during the day. People have also asked for money several times in front of the store, it gets old really fast. The parking lot behind 7-11 has a lot of random traffic going to and from the lot as well.
-Turnover- It appears there is a lot of turnover of tenants in the complex.
There are plenty of nicer places in the area for the same price.

A door to enter the stairwell, a door to leave the stairwell and a door to enter either side of the floor. Try carrying groceries (or anything else for that matter) and you will be having to pick them up and put them down every 20 steps or so. You are a Ideal tenant if you satisfy the conditions.....
Myself, wife and our Infant child lived in their studio apartment (593sqft) at 2685 California St Mountain View for 15 months and based on our experience, this apartment will be a perfect place if you are of the following type of person (READ ALL THE POINTS, I KNOW IT IS HUGE, YOU ARE DOING GOOD FOR YOURSELF BY READING ALL POINTS):
A. Pre-Move in: 1. Pay security deposit Rent before moving -> Common practice in SF bayarea 2. Application fee - $40 to $50 (dont remember) per adult living in the... apt 3. IMPORTANT - The pre move-in inspection will be done along with the property manager, which she will rush out to mark and sign everything as clean in the paper, actually it will be clean and in good shape; But the hack is, you will miss a lot to notice which will appear once you moved in actually! Be-aware, if you still decide after reading all my points, at-least, be careful to take your time in filling pre-move in statement.
B. Living: 1. You rent on-time (if you miss the 1st, you will be charged late fee ~$80 per day), but you MUST NOT live in the apartment (ie) you are the only person rented and travel mostly and just visit your house 2-3 days in a month 2. You are the only person living in the apartment and don't bother about paying their overpriced rent 3. You are the person who enjoys your neighbor private conversations or their blasting music through their very thin walls 4. You are the one who enjoys the very nasty smell through the hallway 5. You are the one who enjoys the strict property manager who implements each and every single word from the rule book and enjoys when she always inspects your patio (no objects like plants or drying racks in your patio)/apartment entry (you can't leave footwear anytime)/parking lot/dump yard and all your activities through their camera
MOVE-OUT: 1. You are the person who happily paying double or triple your security deposit amount ($2000 to $3000) when you leave (if you leave before 1 year, you have to pay double than my case) 2. You are the person who enjoys when your property manager tells the things are okay during pre-move out Inspection, but still charges you a lot which you will never imagine after your move out. 3. You are the person who will not shock to see the overpriced charges for the Paint (they charged $1500 for painting the studio, if you live in 1BR or 2BR, double or triple the amount) and other such similar charges
