The Brooklyn (Furnished Rooms) Apartments is located in Oakland, CA in the 94607 zip code.
the worst place to rent. Common is such an awful company that makes money off the backs of low income individuals while offering uninhabitable conditions. The fire department was called and BROKE DOWN the units door next to mine, when I called common they told me it was a non emergency. We dont have a property manager on site and have never had a resident manager so no one is in charge of the building. Break ins happen multiple times a week with unhoused people doing drugs in the basement,... stealing packages and stealing food from the communal fridges. Toilets dont flush, trash is left everywhere with flies building nests in the communal kitchen sinks. And there is only one number to call, the emergency hotline number. And if its not an emergency? You email Common and they respond two days later claiming the issue was resolved when it never was. Most tenants have moved out without letting the company know, so you will be living alone in a slum with unhoused people freely walking in and out and no management to solve any issues.

Was the maintenance man during renovations
Notice the bare brick walls? It was brutally hot in the summer before they ripped out the studs and sheetrock. With no air conditioning it must be brutal in the summers. Prison cells are bigger than some of these units. Don't back yourself into a corner by moving in there! Better off living in your car or in the park down at lake merrit! You'll feel like a punked fool when you pay your rent.

Starcity
Historical 100-year-old motel renovated into three commercial spaces, a large mixed-use basement, and residential studios.
This brick building houses a bar, club/event venue, and a coffee shop.
It is surrounded by many municipal buildings, a Hilton, and many small businesses.
Tucked between many Oak crossroads, Civic Center is centrally located between Chinatown-Dwntwn-Old town-and Lake Merrit.
Eleventh Street is between two major thoroughfares of Franklin and Webster and has and has... metered parking, low/medium break-ins, major bus-lines, and red/white parking zones.
This 7-9 floor building offers below-average rent for micro-studios, common areas, and many in-person/virtual amenities.
Starcity manages this 70 unit building with one leasing agent and one administrative person. The staff is pretty responsive, but the building does suffer from theft, temperature fluctuations, and noise.
Noise levels range from very high to very low. Depending on the time/day, pandemic, or events.
It can be loud with helicopters, sirens, and car crashes. Sound does bleed through the walls, floors tremendously, not to mention the club event space on the weekends. However, it can be quiet during the holidays, pandemic, and many tenants come and go.
There are tons of restaurants but not many grocery stores.
The co-living arrangement has two sides. The company- Starcity, and the 50+ ppl living together. Both not perfect but still ok.
