This beautiful historic building was saved and given a new life. However, after being purchased by Urban Equity Properties, the building is falling apart. Trash piled up in the basement, in the halls, sitting for 2 weeks at a time. Trash compactor is constantly broken, hot water is out for days at a time. Very little communication from the Property Manager, who is hardly on site. The game room is useless because it has flooded so many times, the ping pong table and fooseball table have caved in.... The storage room floods like crazy and ruins everything in it. Bike storage is great until you want to get a bike out, as it also doubles as the recycling room, which isn’t taken out often enough. Key fobs work half the time, call box works intermittent depending on how cold it is. The windows are poorly insulated so the draft in the winter drives up the utility costs. Gym is a joke of a space. They are trying to label this as luxury apartments. The ovens don’t even have clocks on them, the fridges are basic, the counters and cabinets are cheap. This isn’t worth the $1,530 I’m paying right now.

1-bedroom
Pros: - Affordable rent - In-unit laundry - New appliances - Laminate flooring - Near delicious restaurants and coffee shops
Cons: - Oddly shaped apartments making it somewhat difficult to place furniture - High electric bills in the winter for such small apartments due to the original windows leaking cold air. You have to cover with plastic. - Parking is difficult - you either have to pay Elgin monthly for an uncovered spot across the street, park on the street (2-hr parking Monday-Friday,... many times all spots are taken), or park two blocks down the street for covered parking in the free parking garage. - Windows are sealed shut on the first few floors, so no fresh air during spring/summer - Gym is very small (I would suggest getting a membership at the Elgin community center - it's about a 5 minute walk)
