Broken appliances and bugs

We were treated to a landlord special when we moved in and found a bed bug that had been painted over. And shortly after found a live one and had to go through the ordeal that is bedbug treatment. Only after they tried to avoid doing that because it was "probably just a hitchhiker".

It's been two years of washers and dryers not working. You're not allowed to have clotheslines either. Kitchen drawer is blocked by the oven handle is is basically useless. The downspout splash block in the...
backyard was totally broken with water running directly under the building. We had to get the fridge replaced almost immediately because it was broken. Got a "warning letter" about the blinds in our front window sagging; low quality blinds we never use and that they installed. Were told maintenance was going to fix them and that never happened.

Within the past couple months management has begun trying to enforce things that are not explicitly in the lease. After completely ignored emails, we were told in person that they would NOT be responding to emails or putting anything in writing. Which is not only rude, but also suspect. They continually reference an unrelated section of the lease when there is, in fact, a totally relevant section. It just doesn't uphold their claims.

So that's what you're dealing with. Continually broken appliances, pests, and and management that is dishonest and will outright ignore you.

Really Bad Management

I currently live here. The apartments are not bad by any standards, they are old apartments with some quirks but they get on just fine.

The management at this complex is not good by any standard. My apartment had features lacking from the model, as well as some quality issues that I wanted to have fixed. These issues were either never fixed or took ages to repair. My microwave had broken and it took over a month for them to repair it.

During the entire ordeal with my microwave being broken,...
it was impossible to obtain any information on the repair status. The property manager never called even after saying they would to update me, and the repair team was even less helpful in updating me.

If you have no other choice, or you go to UMBC, this is probably your "best" bet for a one bedroom apartment. Just don't expect much out of it, you will not be happy with the management.

Terrible management

This community suffers from incompetent managers and maintenance staff. It is impossible to have any repairs done, they continuously shut off water, refuse to return calls for service requests, refuse to explain reasons for water and electric shutoffs, and take weeks to complete a simple request such as replacing a malfunctioning microwave. The area around here is low income, and prone to people coming door to door trying to scam you, other residents leave trash everywhere and smoke right... outside the community doors and leave cigarette butts everywhere. The apartments themselves are extremely old and are prone to so many problems, this on top of the fact that the maintenance staff are completely incompetent makes living here a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, they don't care about anything besides your money, and no one you talk to has the power to do anything other than accept your rent and make "promises" about doing things that will never be done.

Bad Management

The neighborhood is decent and the neighbors are nice. However, this property is poorly managed; the buildings are old and need updating. I've been living there only a few months and already have more maintenance tickets than I can count on both hands. I'm so disappointed about how these apartments are managed and cared for; they have great potential, yet, management or Apartment Services doesn't spend the money wisely or the time on maintaining each apartment in order to provide the living... environment they promise on their website for residents. If you are looking for a decent place to live-a place that is worth the money, go elsewhere-it is not worth the headache or being uncomfortable in the dwelling you pay decent money for. I will not renew my lease in this place-it's like depositing your money into a black hole. By the way, I have written a letter explaining my concerns and requests regarding the living environment of my apartment and it was ignored. Think twice please, though convenient to Marc Train, BWI and the 95 Corridor it is not worth your peace of mind.

Best deal in the area

This is a great find for an affordable and convenient apartment in a nice area. If you're looking for luxury then this probably isn't the place for you. After all, you get what you pay for. The main selling points for me were the dishwasher, hardwood flooring (in my unit at least, it does vary), the balcony/patio, lack of crime, and ability to have pets. Not having to go to a laundry mat is a big plus, especially since they upgraded the washers and dryers to accept cards, no more hoarding... quarters!

There's a range of different types of people and lifestyles and pets that liven things up. While upkeep seems a little minimal at times the management is good about making sure that people are considerate of each other. Things like noise complaints or kids making a bit of a mess are addressed quickly. The location is nice too with the highways close by, the Marc station and East Dr within walking distance, and some shopping a few minutes away.

My only complaint would be what I mentioned being the minimalist upkeep. It's nothing major but things like drain spouts and vents needing repair, little to no landscaping, and cracked concrete. Also, thanks to years of the walls being repainted over, they're too textured to use command hooks which I consider a staple in rental living. Luckily it's OK to use nails as long as you patch it up before leaving. Like I said, these are fairly minor things and generally to be expected in apartment and townhome rentals.
