Horrible experience:
The character limit is too short, here, so I can't talk about things breaking down and getting no response, the paper thin walls, a weed & fish smell in the hall, rent increase of nearly $100 to live in an old building with 1 amenity (location), being obligated to pay for up to 2 months after I moved out AND the company taking about $850 from my deposit, in the end. I'll just tell you about my move out inspection:
I spent a few hours cleaning my apartment (it was already decent; during the... showing the caretaker and the future tenant complimented the space), especially the floors, baseboards, bathroom and fridge (I did this over several days throughout the month). The caretaker came upstairs, with a bucket and cleaning products in hand, and proceeded to nickel and dime every possible thing she could find (or make up). It felt like I was in a movie. The way she swiped up dust with her fingers and held it to my face. "See this? Look at this! This is dirty." She climbed counters, craning her neck to see above the shelves. Blamed me for not doing anything about the leak under the sink (I did -- it's just that maintenance looked over it. Twice.).
She scraped her fingers along the baseboard and said, "Yep, dirty." I said, "Weird, because I made sure to clean that well, there shouldn't be any dirt." She replied, "Oh, well, maybe I need to wash my hands. Let me try again." She wet a paper towel and scrubbed desperately, trying to pull up any bit of dust. She could not. "Hm," she grunted. "Not bad." I agreed that the oven and windows could've used more cleaning (in my defense, I didn't know these areas could detach).
She said the last tenants were charged a cleaning fee of over $100 (which sounds right, as they were 2 messy men). Actually, I (as a single, clean man) was charged more than them at $150! That is worth a professional cleaning company cleaning for 3.3 hours, which implies that I left the place a wreck! This is what I imagine getting robbed feels like.
In short, would I support living at any of KRC's properties: no.
