Hawthorne at Indy West Apartments is located in Wilmington, NC in the 28412 zip code.
I took a tour of the apartment building and grounds. The grounds were immaculate and well manicured and the apartments were beautiful and extremely clean.

Pleasant place to live with very nice accomodations
Indy West has been great since day 1. Apartments are really well furnished and very modern. There are several common areas that you and your friends/family/co-workers can do several activities.

the worst
where do I even begin? like the other negative reviews on here.. I have had many problems since moving here - which definitely do not stop at the poor job the staff did. I too had a problem with bugs in my unit. I had multiple security issues which neither the complex NOR hawthorne corporate handled or addressed. in fact, I never even received a call back from the corporate office. - which says alot in itself. futhermore, I also had a problem with the air conditioning going off ELEVEN times in a... row in which I was told to refrain from lighting candles because the wax from the candles could cause the backup.. the buildings were absolutely poorly built because I too can hear every single thing my neighbors do which as you can imagine is not pleasant.. paying a premium here is evident with the outrageous rent prices BUT there is nothing spectacular about this complex that other complexes do not offer. I've spoken to sooo many other residents who are all leaving when their leases end like I am. we also pay VASTLY different rent. a two bedroom unit, with a pool view should NOT be cheaper than a one bedroom unit but also cost over $200.00 more. and one could say, 'oh it's when you signed your lease and the deal you got' ... wrong again, my lease renewal was going to INCREASE in price, not drop. which tells you alot about the management and the fact that they are comfortable in having someone in a smaller unit pay MORE than someone with double the space. i've told everyone I know who was considering moving here that it is not a good idea. overpriced, overrated, and a staff that is at best.. horrible, is the reason for the negative reviews and the reasons their turn over rate is so low.

Go anywhere else
Tldr: if I can keep one person from making the same mistake I did I'll be happy go somewhere else.
Take my advice do not move here. The way this place is run terribly. The five star reviews are fake everyone I've talked to can't wait to get out of their lease. You pay 25$ a month for trash pickup and even then Trash is frequently not picked up when it's supposed to be causing trash to be left in hallways for days. The people in the office have smug attitudes when you need anything. Even though... they DNA test dog poop to fine the owners 250 bucks it still is on the side walks. Honestly it's just a big joke they have the highest rent cost in the area and there were scuff marks on the floor and dead bugs everywhere. You could still see boot prints from construction. We had to have them turn up the hot water multiple times. They lock the ac unit up so you can't clean that room and ours shut off " due to dust blocking its drain". And they even violate their own lease trying to " just come by and poke our heads in when no one is home". "because the new owner wants to see the units". What new owner the building is less then a year old. All our amenities were shut down due to covid fine but they offered no discount or anything. So for months we have been paying more than anywhere else and have nothing to show for it. Again pandemic so this is far from my main point.
If I could leave now I would and so would other people I've talked with.
Do you need more convincing? How about that my shower only gets hotter once it's turned on if you want to lower the temp you have to shut it off completely. Or maybe the fact our electricial panel doesn't have a single thing labeled. Tells you how much the people that built this place cares. They claim to have noise dampening in the walls and ceiling hahaha ha two old people moved in above me and I hear every step them and their tiny dogs. The office people act like it's a hassle anytime they are needed for anything. I called and told them my refrigerator filters needed to be changed (both lights were on) they instead left a note on how to reset it and said you only get one change of filters per lease are you kidding me? Who knows if they will ever change the ac filter. One of the vents in the master bedroom blows no air I think someone didn't connect it. This place is brand new built less than a year ago and it feels like it's built out of duct tape and hot glue

The property is lovely. The apartment is very nice. I especially like the 10 foot ceilings which make the space seem larger.. I wish the amenities were opened more for residents who work during the day. This is particularly problematic.
