Nestled on a wooded corner acre, our well-appointed, comfortable home offers a relaxing year-round getaway in a stunning setting with space and privacy. We live in the historic Croton Trails, on a quiet non-thru road, only 47-minutes by train to NYC,... but definitely exurban. The lush wooded landscape features a wonderfully inviting seasonal inground pool & hot tub, and patios – covered and uncovered – to lounge, dine or do your morning yoga al fresco.
Within minutes of our home we have golf, river walks, restaurants, outlet shopping, bike and hiking trails. Nearby is West Point, the Storm King Art Center, Woodbury Commons Outlet Center and quaint Hudson river towns like Cold Spring, Garrison, Beacon and Sleepy Hollow. There are four main hospitals within a 20-minute drive (Phelps, Hudson Valley, Westchester, Montrose V.A.), and a number of other medical facilities nearby. Corporate Offices for companies such as IBM, Pepsico, Regneron and others are all nearby.
Our spot is perfect for creative folk ready to settle in and be inspired in a peaceful environment; business executives in the area for their visits to the many corporate headquarters based nearby; and needed escapes from the hustle and bustle of NYC. It’s an ideal base camp for exploring the wilds of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Hudson Valley.
Our spacious house is a two-story, 3-bedroom, 3 bath retreat with a large open-format family room with 70" flat panel TV and eat-in kitchen, and the separate original living room with fireplace has a pull-out couch for sleepovers, and of course, a well-stocked library. The home is equipped with Sonos speakers in three of the downstairs rooms connected via Alexa to such music services as Pandora, Amazon music, Primephonic, or your own library.
This house was one of the famous communist cottages in the Croton Trails that you will learn all about if you watch the movie "Reds.” John Reed lived down the street, Edna St Vincent Millay was married around the corner, and the whole area of town was jam-packed with communists, academics and thinkers a hundred years ago. Martin Luther King was in this house, Paul Robeson sang in the living room, author Howard Fast was a regular, Isadora Duncan, Gloria Swanson, Lee Hays (of The Weavers) and others were neighbors, and the FBI had a permanent guard across the street to keep an eye on the communists in this very home, and all over Croton's "Red Hill".
