The Netherlands – Historic Charm Meets Modern Living in University City
Located in the heart of University City, The Netherlands spans an entire city block along Chestnut Street, offering some of the most unique and spacious one-, two-, and... three-bedroom apartments in the area. With stunning historical details, high ceilings, and modern upgrades, this beautifully restored building blends classic charm with contemporary convenience.
Originally built in 1907, The Netherlands retains its architecturally significant brick and limestone facade, while the interiors have been thoughtfully renovated. A complete restoration in 2018 brought fresh updates to every apartment and common space, including stainless steel appliances, white quartz countertops, white oak hardwood flooring, and sleek tiled kitchens and baths. Each unit also includes an in-unit washer and dryer, dishwasher, and modern finishes, making everyday living effortless.
Beyond your apartment, the building offers a pet-friendly atmosphere with an on-site dog park, beautifully restored lobby details, and mosaic flooring dating back to the early 1900s.
Convenience is key—bus stops right in front of the building provide easy access to Penn, Drexel, CHOP, Penn Medicine, and Center City. Whether you're commuting, exploring the neighborhood, or enjoying the vibrant University City scene, The Netherlands puts you right in the center of it all.

Dont live here if you can help it. Rodents running loose throughout apartment and management does nothing aside from set out a few rat poison blocks. We have seen mice nearly everyday for the last 5 months running across the floor, on our couch, on our counters in our apartment despite it our place being tidy.

Property Manager at Netherlands responded to this review
Please be assured that we take pest control very seriously. We have already taken steps to address the issue by bringing in a professional pest control service to conduct a thorough inspection and treatment of the entire building. We are also... implementing additional measures to prevent any future occurrences and to ensure a clean and secure environment for all our residents.

If you have a car AVOID THIS PLACE
In front of just the Netherlands apartments there are 4 piles of glass for car break in. Pretty much one a week. The bikes outside are stripped and residents have plastic on their windows from being broken into. The apartments aren't even cleaning the glass on the sidewalk in front of the building. Do not live here with a car or set aside money for breakins!

Current Resident
Coming from a current resident of Netherlands for about 2 months now. The plus is the rent and the location, perfect spot for local eateries/quick groceries/public transportation. Negatives are the ghosting management. We signed the lease in June set to move in beginning of July, and as soon as we signed the lease, we got zero response to our questions. Namely we were lied to about the installing of AC’s in the units and the fact they actually don’t have recycling here. We try contacting... management about all of the previous residents mail that was still here, and no zero response on what we should do about it. Overall, decent place but be prepared you are on your own when it comes to cleaning, repairs, and general help from up top.

Great price, helpful management
The property is newly renovated with clean and modern appliances and ample natural lighting. I love the large closet spaces and curved, bay window in the bedroom. I've very rarely heard the neighbors, so little noise travels between units. Management has also been very helpful and friendly with quick email response to lease questions and submitting timely requests to maintenance. Would highly recommend leasing at this property!

Great price for newly renovated building
Rent and utilities are both very reasonable, and the location is convenient for anyone as there is a bus stop right outside the building. Building is secure, and all equipment is new and functional. Highly recommend!
