Office does not care about residents

Its to no surprise of mine all the bad reviews surround how the office lacks compassion. If they can argue it legally, they wont help you at all. I lived here for 6 months and this is by far the worst place I have ever lived. $75 for the smallest parking area ever, you will park under a bridge where your car stays dirty and windows are smashed. Elevator and pool are always under maintenance. Do NOT live here

Bait and switch.

Initial lease provided free covered visitor and tenant parking. About 6 months in this changed to $75/month per tenant with no allocation made for visitor parking. Mgmt commentary with respect to this issue was something like “you can park under the underpass but we don’t know if they tow or not.” Fire alarm goes off on the same frequency as a first year college dorm. Speaking of fire- the sprinklers burst and management resolutely refused to offer rental concessions to apartments affected by... water damage, helpfully reminding tenants instead that we all have rental insurance.
Avoid.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. We would like to address the concerns mentioned in this review, starting with parking. We offered a concession at the beginning of the lease as a special. After controlled access doors were... installed, the rental standards were changed to allow one vehicle in addition to offering a parking pass policy. Additionally, we informed residents of this new policy via an updated parking addendum. Regarding the pipe issue, we did everything to accommodate residents affected by the water. We informed them to contact their renters insurance company. We followed the proper protocol for scenarios such as this one, and while we understand your frustration, there was no negligence on our end. If you have any additional concerns, please contact us.

Luxury?! HA!

The parking spaces are TINY resulting in many door dings. Shoddily built and builder grade appliances and amenities. The only thing luxury is for the luxury of living close to downtown.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. The parking spaces at Element 29 are code compliant with the City of Charleston’s requirements. There were no recent parking incidents with residents. Element 29 offers stainless steel... energy-efficient appliances in every apartment home. The community offers a clubhouse, movie room, business center, fitness center, pool with sundeck, saunas, and a commercial-grade kitchen for the residents to use.

Do not move here.

The nicest thing I can say about this apartment complex is that it gives the vibe that it was designed by a spreadsheet. Fake luxury and corner cutting plague this complex. Appliances barely function and lights burn out quickly. Many of the main doors either get stuck or lock themselves. The sprinkler system was designed poorly so the fire alarm system will randomly go off, forcing evacuation or hearing damage if you want to stay inside. The last time this occurred, it took over an hour to find... the override on the fire alarm control panel to shut the alarm off.

If you look in the garage, you will find many cars with scrapes on their side due to colliding against columns and other cars to fit into impossibly small spaces.

The area itself is high in theft and this complex does nothing much to protect you. Recently they installed garage doors (that will also sometimes get stuck, because somehow every other door in this apartment complex doesn't work), so hopefully that helps with the problem of car break-ins. Unfortunately they offer no space to put your bike inside, so there is a high chance of it being stolen. There are no security cameras watching the bikes either, so there is nothing you can do about it in the event that it is stolen.

There is very little sense of community fostered by the complex. The "events" they hold are just advertisements for things that occur every week at nearby bars/breweries, and to be honest, I do not think these places have any clue that element29 is advertising for them. Most complexes have coffee bars, treats for pets, or random gatherings for tenants to enjoy, but this place completely lacks any of that. There are drawbacks to having a "corporate" landlord, but the corporation responsible for this building seems to go out of their way to put no effort in. It is as if they understand that this place is a mistake and it is best if they just move on and ignore it.

I personally have had thousands of dollars of cost in property damage during my time of living here. I would recommend living quite literally anywhere else within the area, as it seems the majority of other apartment complexes have figured these issues out. I would happily spend an extra $500 in rent every month to know that my bikes or packages won't be stolen or that I won't see new scrapes on my car every other week. There are plenty of other viable options within the area that are comparably priced.
