Visit during the evening or on the weekend. Expect German cockroaches everywhere. Garbage. Men hanging around trucks with loud mariachi music until 3 am (Thurs-Sat). Gunshot sounds constantly. Bad windows. Almost no AC. Pool rarely open. Mailbox theft... the list could go on and on.
If you have no other options, good luck. If you do, keep searching. Unless you really like sweating in the summer and freezing in the winter. And you won't get your deposit back. Ever.

Nightmare Rental for 1.5 Years
Read the reviews. Many of the positive ones are from their own staff lol. Old units. Bad heating and AC $$$$... windows 30 years old. You will bake in the summer and have hundreds of dollars in heating costs. Bad parking. Noisy. Very rough neighborhood. Pool area usually closed. Worst rental ever for me. If you are a classy professional... you probably wont enjoy the ambiance. Nothing convenient close by. Even the HEB is rough. Glad to be out.

3 years of fighting with management and listening to screams
If I could leave a Zero Star review I would -- Lived at Rare for 3 years, finally moved to a new place now, but this apartment was the worst renting experience I've ever had in my entire life.
-moved into the apartment absolutely infested with roaches, immediately requested pest control and emailed the office (since it was after hours) and was hopeful something would be done - no sign of pest control and zero response from the office despite multiple emails and attempts to contact, only to find... out 3 weeks later that the office manager had been on vacation. Roach problem lasted the /entire/ time living there, though the intial 'open a drawer and have it be full of roaches/walk downstairs to multiple roaches in sight every morning' only lasted, you know, the first /6 months/. they calmed down over the winter and with every effort on my part they never returned in full force. oh yeah, you're paying for pest control on your monthly rent but you only get pest control if you specifically request it through maintence :) so thats fun. - AC went out for mutlple weeks, without fail, every summer, and the office would be unresponsive or totally unhelpful each time. First summer it was out for a month and a half, with my roommate and i contacting and visiting the office every day during that period trying to get responses and help with it since it was consistently 87 in the apartment. Next summer, exact same thing. this past, the entire last 2 months of the lease the AC was completely out, zero communication from the office, ZERO RESPONSE from the office on calls and emails, ignored maintence requests, until about 3 weeks before our move out they entered the apartment with no noticed (or left notice) and cut a hole in the wall undernieth the unit and then never came back to do anything to it. the AC was out the entire time we were moving in may. - Parking lot smells like a sewer 75% of the time, overflowing dumpsters at either end of the complex, no trashcans around the mailboxes so theres consistently paper piled around it - many dog owners dont bother to pick up after thier dogs -uneven and soft floors, un even walls, waterdamage left unrepeaired and just painted over, the drains in the sink dont line up with the basin of the sinks and just leave standing water at all times - our unit had no weather seals on the door that were never replaced despite multiple requests - broken screens on windows, unsealed windows, weak ACs that wont stop breaking

Make no mistake, this is a slum
Pest infestations, drug deals in the parking lot, electrical, structural, and plumbing issues, loud neighbors outside at 4am. Avoid!
