Apartments at Sunset is located in Frederick, MD in the 21701 zip code.
We have been living here since July 2021 now, and have had a great experience. If anything is ever needed Derek heads right over and fixes it. Josh in the lease office is always there as well if anything is ever needed too. Quiet and comfortable. Highly recommend, especially in an area with such high rent costs at other complexes.

Great place to live
I lived in the Apartments at Sunset from 2017 to 2019. My experience there was almost entirely positive.
These are luxury apartments, so you will naturally pay more to live here. The perks are worth the cost if you ask me.
Living on the bottom floor often comes with noise problems, but not here. Either my upstairs neighbor was unusually quiet, or these buildings are extremely well insulated for sound.
This complex was lightening-fast at making repairs. My heater gave out one time in the dead... of winter. After calling the office as soon as they opened, it was repaired and working within less than half an hour! Who could ask for better maintenance?
The one significant complaint I have about this apartment complex is the way they nickel-and-dime their residents to death. They charge for every utility including trash pick-up. They require you to have renters' insurance. If you lose your key to the exercise room, they charge you an outrageous fee to replace it. Even if you are on a month-to-month lease, they require you to give a whopping SIXTY DAYS notice before moving out.

Absolute Nightmare
Horrible. Neighbors constantly smoked weed and management would just put letters on the door but never did any more to resolve the situation. We also had bed bugs in that apartment and have never had those before. Please reconsider where you are going to live if you are thinking about this place. It was a nightmare.

My Personal Pros and Cons
MY PERSONAL PROS: 24/7 gym access, kind/approachable management, relatively quiet, reasonable rent, location, extermination services (with the exception of moths), quick to make technical repairs. MY PERSONAL CONS: not allowed to view apartment before move-in day, cigarette burn holes in our carpet on move-in day, cigarette odor on move-in day, strong marijuana odor that would come and go (smoking neighbors), relatively slow reaction to a bedbug problem, failure to exterminate surrounding... neighbors’ apartments after we experienced bedbugs, not non-smoking*, refusal to end our lease early even after persistent issue of marijuana odor. Your experience will likely be dependent upon the building that you are in. My friend lived there for around 8 years with few issues. You get what you pay for.

Nice Apartments
After living here for ~2.5 years, I can honestly say that this is a nice place to live.
As for the apartments themselves, they are nice. I live in a remodeled one, so that might make a difference. I would recommend moving into one of these over a non-remodeled unit, as I believe the most of the older ones haven't been updated since the late 80s. Paint jobs are nice and I had new carpet installed in my unit, which was nice. I do live on the third floor, so it can get warm in the summer. However,... the heating/cooling systems are really efficient and work well year-round, so you shouldn't encounter much of an issue with that. Some plugs can be a little loose and may not hold well, though maintenance has been more than willing to come by and fix the sockets in the past. All of the third floor apartments have vaulted ceilings, a nice addition you're free to install light fixtures/ceiling fans into a pre-wired socket. (I have a ceiling fan and it's great in the warm months). Closets and pantries are large and the inclusion of a washer/dryer in each unit is a huge plus. The decks/balconies are quite spacious and many offer nice views, so that's a plus.
The grounds are nice for the most part. Buildings are well lit, more so on the side with the green roofs, but still nice either way. Grass/bushes are well maintained, though buildings on the green roofed side seem to be cleaner/in better condition, versus ones on 9th street with the yellow siding/grey roofs. Hopefully they will remodel the outsides of the 9th street end soon.
Office staff and maintenance are very kind. used to be rude, though this all changed last year when the new staff joined. Bryan/the others are amazing and more than welcoming. They have helped me with any questions/issues you might have and seem as though they genuinely care for everyone who lives in the complex. Maintenance staff is generally fast and attentive.
And please, remember that you're living in an apartment complex. You will hear your neighbors at times and there will be signs that you're not the only one living on the property. That's life, and no matter where you rent, that will occur. If you're not willing to settle on that, apartment life is probably not for you.
One last suggestion: I'd walk through the different available units before you sign anything. That way, you can get a feel for each and decide what'd be best for you. (When doing so, factor in age/unit status/carpet and paint condition/the view).
