Break ins
Lots of car break ins the past few weeks. And it’s getting worse. I wouldn’t move here until the complex is willing to do something about it. They refuse to even put up cameras.

Briargate Apartments is conveniently located close to I-94, shopping and schools. It is a quiet complex that welcomes families and singles alike. They also allow dogs and have green space to walk them. The Property Manager Justin cares deeply about the complex and its residents. He works very hard to make the apartment community welcoming.

Recommended, but with some caveats
I moved here last minute because it's one of the few places in my price range that allows dogs after the place I was supposed to move gave me three weeks' notice that my unit was no longer available and could not give me something comparable in my price range. I would recommend this, as long as you go in understanding what you're getting and knowing that these are not luxury apartments.
Pros: - Free heat! - Buildings require a key to enter. - Great location, convenient to Westnedge and I-94. -... Free gym membership (but be aware that the membership is to a gym on West Main, not one of the ones in Portage). - Office staff is great, but their hours are really weird.
Cons: - The kitchens that haven't been remodeled suck. I have maybe 5 linear feet of counter space, half of which is unusable except for storage because of where the stove is. No cabinets above the stove and fridge. Some units have better kitchens/more cabinets. - Only one washer and dryer per building when there's room for 2-3 stackable sets. The company that services the units also increases price with no notification. - Despite the fact that the complex supplies bags, most people do not pick up after their dogs. - Lots of smaller, very aggressive dogs who will bark, growl, and lunge at you/your dog while their owners look at you like you did something wrong. - No recycling. - Maintenance is not great. My bath tub was reglazed to make it white, but was done very poorly. My dishwasher was not installed correctly, and I had to ask three times for him to come and fix it before it stopped popping out from under the counter when I opened the door. Their solutions to "fixing" things is often bare minimum--my front door was coming apart and they STAPLED the veneer back on instead of replacing the door. - Walls are paper thin. - Despite what the floor plan shows, my unit has neither a fireplace (those are only in outer units) nor a front closet.
