Stay far, far away from Cambridge Towers Apartments

I have been here since 2020. Allow me to share my experiences.

The mail room had issues with security in the past and packages were often stolen from the area. They have a camera now, at least, and some more locks, so that is an improvement.

There are rooms, including mine, which do not have the ability to ring someone up, and yet others do have that ability.

The building is old, with old pipes which have leaked multiple times into my room. Recently the seemingly yearly leak hit again, this...
time in the bathroom. Started on a Friday and wasn't responded to until Monday. Only by the next Friday were efforts managed to stem the tide, and the bathroom still not only reeks of mildew due to all the water, but won't be properly repaired and hopefully cleaned up until this upcoming Friday. We'll see.

It is a very loud area: often times you will hear music blaring outside, even with the windows shut, and most weeks during summer there is some form of street racing out in the intersection, although generally this lessens once winter hits.

Water gets shut off for hours almost once a month, at least.

The new owners out of California are pretty bad. They attempted to force me to pay money I didn't owe them which required going through court. Wasted everybody's time and put mountains of stress upon me.

Office times are confusing. The office door says Mondays - Fridays from 9 AM - 6 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM - 5 PM. Last week I was told they aren't actually open on Mondays. Also 75% of the time if you go down to the office on those days they are seemingly closed. They don't really appear to reply to messages left on the phone either.

For some reason they think that they deserve to raise the rent higher. Why? Nothing substantial has changed for the better. The updated laundry facility isn't worth the price hike. They cleaned the garages, updated the infrastructure, and repaved the front parking lot. But the apartments themselves are still not in good shape. Where do they even get off doing that? They have done nothing to deserve the rent hike.

Stay far away from Cambridge Towers Apartments. If I could rate this lower than one star I absolutely would. We'll see if they end up trying to fight for the security deposit. They certainly don't deserve to keep it. If you must come here I suggest looking into starting some sort of tenant's union.

Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. While the office is... typically open, we do need to close when on a tour or meeting with a resident. We would like the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your concerns and ensure that the remainder of your time spent at Cambridge Towers meets your expectations. Please feel free to stop down or call the office, if we are out, please leave a message and we will be sure to contact you.

More negatives than positives

I've lived in the building for 6+ years. The original management was welcoming and attentive. Since the building was purchased by another management company several years ago, living conditions have only declined.
There is constant overturn of office staff. When I was trying to transfer to a one bedroom from the studio I had, it took weeks to get any kind of response, only to then learn that the manager had quit and the new management didn't have any info from her. They have since gone through...
many people working in the office, which is never open anyway. This also allows errors to be blamed on previous office staff. I have filled out and returned a form denoting which parking space and storage unit I had assigned to me at least 5 times.
It's an old building so issues are expected, but in the last few years it's clear pipes need replacing as there are often leaks and emergency repairs requiring building water shut off at least twice a month. If an elevator is out of service it often takes several months to get it repaired. And then when they are functioning they often don't go to the floor you've selected.
The parking garages and front lot have been renovated, this took nearly a year to accomplish which was an inconvenience if you couldn't claim available parking.
Pre-pandemic, packages were delivered to the office. Once we were self isolating, packages were then delivered to a table near the elevator. Delivery people do not always leave packages here, which isn't entirely the building's fault, but even if your packages are left in this only partly secure area, there's still a high chance they will get stolen. This is a rampant issue anywhere you live, but it's clear management of this building isn't concerned with security and how easy it is for anyone to get in and steal packages. I have also observed a few storage units with the doors ripped off the hinges and padlocks still attached, so be sure not to leave anything valuable in storage.
Utilities used to be included but now residents must pay all utilities, amounting to at least $100 a month.
With parking renovations complete and underground parking included you and your guests will have somewhere to park. It's mostly a quiet building. The concrete walls help.
With the increase in price due to utilities and the package theft I would no longer recommend living in Cambridge Towers. The rent appears to be competitive for the area and it's close to highways and shopping.

Property Manager at Cambridge Towers Apartments responded to this review

Hi Anna, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Cambridge Towers. We appreciate that you have chosen Cambridge as your home and we look forward to the opportunity to show you a high level of service. The pandemic did cause... staffing turnovers and vendor supply shortages causing delays in finishing projects. We are excited that the garage and new parking deck are open for your use. We have recently hired a new manager that is committed to providing high quality service to our residents and prospective customers. Should you have any questions or just want to say Hello please do not hesitate to stop by the leasing office.

An ok apartment at first

The rent was cheap for the area and utilities were free for a while. Then the new management decided to raise rents and charge utilities via RUBS system all during a global pandemic. There were many times water would be shut off or make us clear the parking garage and didn't give an advanced notice. The elevator would be constantly be broken and laundry machines not working. They respond to maintenance requests pretty quickly.

Great Place to Live!

I've been living at Cambridge Towers for a few years and I am hoping that a one bedroom unit opens up here so I don't have to leave. The place is older but it is well run and has a great resident manager. The utilities, underground parking and a storage unit are included in the rent which is great. I really like the layout of the apartment, the large balcony, and how quiet the building is all the time. It is going to be hard to find a better value somewhere else.

It's okay

All utilities are paid for, which is nice. A/C works well in the living room, but it doesn't go all the way to the bedroom so it gets warm in there. The two elevators are nice but they are slow, so you're better off using the stairs, at least to go down. Big walk in closet and the dishwasher is nice. Shelly, the resident manager, is terrible though. If they got rid of her and replaced her with someone who was actually in the office and wasn't lazy and mean, I would definitely stay here longer.
