Poor Communication

I was excited to find a renovated apartment in the cwe at DelCoronado. I had been told from previous residents that the management company is slower than others so I expected a slight delay. I applied and followed up with the office a few days later. I was told they were just waiting on my rental history to come through and that I should have the lease tomorrow or a few days later at minimum. That was nearly 4 weeks ago. I'm set to move to St. Louis in a few days. I emailed and called inquiring... about the hold up within that time period. Luckily, I got off the waitlist at a different property, emailed delco for an update so I could make an informed decision, heard nothing, so I signed a lease within the span of a few days elsewhere.

I finally received a response today (after informing them I signed a lease elsewhere) that the previous tenant decided to stay and they were trying to figure out how to help me and they apologized for the lack of communication. While I appreciated that email, it was nice, sincere and apologetic, and I do understand that sometimes things happen, I think it would have been super easy to have sent that email weeks earlier.

I took the time to write this review because it would have been helpful to me. I think if the communication is this poor with someone trying to lease an apartment, which I generally consider to be the time the management company puts their very best foot forward, I can't imagine how long it would take before they fixed a maintenance issue or serious problem.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We pride ourselves in our customer service, so we are deeply sorry we weren't able to provide you with one of our renovated apartments or communicate this with you sooner. We hope you love your new... apartment, but if you're not 100% satisfied with your new home, we hope you'll consider us again!

Poor Management

I gave the score I did because the location and apartment itself is nice. However, the management is awful. Besides the fact that neither the front office nor maintenance never answer the phone or return messages, and that they hire rude security people, here are a couple more examples:

1) The first, and most important, is that they recently LOST MY RENT CHECK, and then called me saying I had not paid my rent. I showed them two kinds of proof that I had but they did not find this acceptable...
and insisted that I pay again plus a late fee. When I refused, they made a big stink about it, even though it was their responsibility for losing the check. I got others involved, but still ended up having to pay the fee. I was livid.

2) I pay for parking in an uncovered lot, so I have a clicker to get in the gate. A few months into moving in, my clicker stopped working, so I couldn't get in or out of the gate without someone helping me. Thankfully, someone from the office informed me of two spots in the garage that no one was paying for at the moment that I could park in until they got my clicker fixed. However, they failed to communicate this to the doormen/security, who yelled at me when I parked there, saying "This is private parking. Someone pays for that!" When I told him the name of the woman who told me that the spot was free, he did not believe me and threatened to tow my car. I tried calling the front office about this incident, and they did not answer. It took the office almost a month to fix my clicker, and it caused great distress, as that same doorman pestered me every single time I parked there and never believed me.

3) They also never put my name and phone number in the security system so I could buzz visitors in, despite me filling out the paperwork and reminding them every time I paid my rent.

Safe, Convenient, Nice

I have lived at Del Coronado for almost 2 (2015-now) years and have found very little to complain about during my stay. I live in an updated 2 bdrm/2bath, and the space easily accommodates everyone. They are currently doing a lot of refurbishing around the building; I'm so glad they are! I love my apartment but the Lobby totally needed a facelift.

1. Safety
I think a lot of newcomers to Saint Louis worry about safety, and it is totally a legit concern. The DelCo has 24hr security. I have never...
had a reason to feel unsafe in the apartment building, since it is filled with mostly Washington University medical/nursing/pharmacy students, SLU college students, and resident physicians or employees at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
- Note on mail- We get the packages delivered to the door man and the packages are kept in the office until we can pick it up. You can get packages any time of day or night, not just office hrs!

2. Location
The DelCo is a short 5min walk(approx. 3 blocks) from the Barnes-Jewish hospital. During really hot or cold days, we can cut through the back street straight into the Center for Outpatient Health parking garage (1 block away).
There's several sushi options(Kampai, Drunkenfish, Koi, Vodka Sushi, Central Table), farm to table(Taste, Wildflower), BBQ saloon, Mexican, Mediterranean, tons of bars, and all in a 4 block radius. You can't forget about the great dessert places like Jeni's Ice Cream (my fav), the Cup (specialty cupcakes), Coffee Cartel (cafe/ice cream/open 24hrs!), and Bissenger's (chocolate galore). I could say more, but I think that should give you a good idea of how great it is to be living in the Central West End.

3. Management
This is really important to me because a lackadaisical management staff could mean disaster for an apartment complex. Thank goodness, I have had a good experience with the team at DelCo. During my 2 years, I have had broken light bulbs, broken/loose cabinet doors, an issue with an AC window unit, stuck door, Lots of self-initiated lock outs, and all my issues were addressed promptly.

4. Amenities
If you wanna know about the Amenities, they are on the website. We have coin laundry (1.25$ per load) on every even numbered floor. The coin laundry is my least favorite thing about DelCo, but I have managed to survive for 2 years without a in-unit washer and dryer. I guess I can survive a couple more.

Del Coronado

The location of this building is what makes it so great. It's right in the heart of the central west end and is perfect for students and those who work at the nearby hospitals. I love living here!
